Her Campus: "Trappin' in the Schoolhouse"

Music captures our deepest thoughts, serves as an escape from the harsh realities of the world, and even helps us better understand who we are in the grand scheme of life. For Puerto Rico, and other places in Latin America, trap music has become an extension of identity and culture. Trap has become the music you party, study, and get ready to, but receives such a bad rep due to its borrowing of words, subject matter, and delivery.

Her Campus: "Tenemos que hablar: Puerto Rico Queer Filmfest"

Due to the devastation of Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico Queer Filmfest 2017 took a major backseat. This year, however, the film festival’s organizers made sure that the week long event was a priority. The desire to create a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community to speak about their experiences gave life to the annual festival. This year, the festival began on May 17th, the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Bi-phobia.
Her Campus: "The Lamar Legacy: Winner Takes All"

Rap mogul and award-winning creative Kendrick Lamar has not only surpassed the expectations of many but, after 10+ years in the game, scored the Pulitzer Prize. His 2017 album DAMN, “a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life,” is the first genre of its kind to be honored in the prestigious foundation established in 1917.
