Third Annual Houston Black Food Truck Festival
By Cameron King, KPFT Houston

The Blacklist Association hosted its 3rd Annual Houston Black Food Truck Fest Saturday October 27th, 2019 at the Shrine of the Black Madonna! Families and people of all ages came out to taste some of the best food in their local community. Styles of food served ranged from Chicago-style barbecue to Tex-Mex and Cajun fusions. Not only did attendees get exposed to assorted culinary styles, but they also got a taste of Houston culture in all its diversity. The site of the festival is a safe haven for the local community to gather, worship, speak freely, and purchase goods at the Buy Black marketplace. In short, this cultural and community center is a “Beacon of Light that offers a path to spiritual upliftment and Black empowerment.” The center acts a breeding ground for ideas, and a place where entrepreneurs, creatives and innovators can come together to bring these ideas to life. Here both community members and leaders organize and make strides to generate productivity that benefits the neighborhood. In the local struggle toward Black liberation, the Shrine of the Black Madonna prioritizes inter communal development and sustainability.
